Desert Scene Painting Process

Tonight I have a new painting in the works to show.  I suppose this is just another thing that I have started and have yet to finish.  I'm working out what details I want to add and the mood as well, although that has already begun to develop.  I first gessoed the fiber board and then sketched out the desert scene.  The main section of desert (almost the entire bottom half) was created through a mixture of ochre and basic red with an occasional touch of a dark, red-undertoned brown.

What I have so far is a very basic painting with very little depth (in the sand anyway)and not any real focus.  As of now this square painting is sitting on my easel waiting to be completed.

^Mixture used to create basic dark desert color.

YES, at that point that weird texture was on purpose.

So, what do you think?  Boring, great, needs more, or just fine as is??? I obviously think it needs to be finished, but part of being an artist is knowing when to stop.

Bird and Wine

The inspiration for this painting comes from several things.  The idea is that someone has left his/her belongings behind on a deck by the sea and this is the scene that ensued.

A Panda Fantasy

Ok, so I know this may seem a bit off from the paintings I have been showing on here, but after you take a look at the ink page, I'm sure you'll realize this is pretty mild.....all things considered.  This new piece that's in the works has a panda, yes I said it, a panda.  Not only a panda, but a person riding a panda.  Let that sink in a bit, and while you're at it, realize you shouldn't get your hopes up about seeing the finished painting.  Why? Well, because I said so.  In the unfortunate event that I find myself hating the painting how it turns out, I'll might consider not posting it.  But, don't worry, cause who knows if that'll even happen...

So here is some of the work in progress, including an initial doodle to get the idea down and some photos of how the painting is coming along.  Enjoy:)

Old and New Paintings!

Hi, everyone!

I know it's been a few days since my last post but I'm back again and with some new art at that.  This first one is one of my first beach-ish landscapes, and I just really enjoy the color of the water in this scene.

This next painting took me a bit of time, because I wanted to mix the colors just right. I also didn't want to have two big, perfect, orange circles sitting there staring at me.  I really wanted a bit of a skewed or stretched appearance to the perspective; to give these two some personality.

Landscape painting

I worked on a dog painting recently, but decided to wait a bit before working on it anymore, and will show you guys the process of it once I finish:) Today I both started and finished a new piece that I am actually very pleased with.  I hope to hear what anyone thinks, and would like some solid critiques.

This first picture was taken after I had completed a simple outline of what I was painting.  I wanted to make sure not to paint blue beneath the trees, because I wanted them to retain all of their color.

This is the painting order that I used, as you can see that most of the background was in place BEFORE painting the trees.  Unfortunately, I completely forgot to put in the darkest part of the background, and stopped mid-tree to finish it.

Here is the final product, plus a closeup of the tree on the right.  The snow texture on the branches was made with a painting spatula.

Now, for some exciting news.  I will be setting up a secondary blog for selling my art only.  Hopefully, it will be up before the new year.  You should be able to find all of my works that are for sell, and purchase them there.
